Who companionship may help
Companionship may be valuable for an older adult, an adult living with a disability, or another individual who would benefit from regular conversation, shared activities, and an encouraging presence. It can also reassure families that their loved one has meaningful interaction during the day.
What companion support may include
- Conversation, listening, and social engagement
- Shared hobbies, games, reading, music, and other preferred activities
- Encouragement with established routines and appropriate community engagement
- Accompaniment or approved errands when included in the service arrangement
- Communication with the care team about relevant non-emergency observations
Companionship is not medical treatment or behavioral-health therapy. It is person-centered social support shaped around the individual’s interests, routines, comfort, and approved service plan.

Our Lumberton office coordinates services across Bladen, Columbus, Cumberland, Hoke, Moore, Richmond, Robeson, and Scotland counties. Payment may be available through an authorized program or arranged privately, depending on the situation.
